Getting the Queers Outta the Hood

So, I stumbled on this one on Facebook today. This video shows a group of people banding together to remove a group of Bible Thumpers praying in front of a same sex couple in a quiet neighbourhood. Makes me proud that they will not stand for this bigotry and hatred anymore. I love that ordinary citizens are removing them, not the authorities. Here it is:

  1. No, but a church that is a similar type of Baptist.

There is alot of backlash starting for this. The gay couple, who are civil servants, are kinda in a Bonfire of the Vanities moment, and are trying to politely disassociate themselves. The church is being watched by the Civil Liberties Union, and the gay community is considering the fight. Interesting stuff.

  2. I think I saw them protesting in front of Red Lobster with signs reading:

"Shellfish Are an Abomination! Lev. 11:10"

    and

    "God Hates Crabs"

  4. Lately, I have been noticing that I am really not into arguing the semantics of scripture and such. I accept that it is irrelevant. But, my interest is more on the political and social consequences of the freakshow, and how it serves to infringe on our everyday lives. This one has peaked my interest because this is happening in a country where we openly have gay marriage and civil rights for homosexuals. Good reminder that the insane undertow is never far away.

  5. Plymouth Brethren movement. http://www.benedictionblogson.com/2010/08/24/toronto-neighbours-tell-highfield-road-gospel-preacherprayers-to-go-away/

  6. Yes... Thank you for that. The media has been "skewing the info"... A friend of mine lived one street over, and says that this has been a huge problem all along. They have a history of targeting gay couple, and the area has a high number of them. I think that the hood should band together and start having a mini Pride Day in front of their churches on Sunday. That should drive the message home.

Nevertheless, incidents such as these are good. They get people talking, and Civil Liberties Associations watching!!!!

  7. Oh Plymouth Brethren decent.Yikes.No wonder.

They have a long history of not really likeing people not in their group.Quite often they dont even allow their women folk to become involved in preaching. And any women seen wearing pants?, crikey ! look out.

  8. Yes, they are pretty extreme. They refer to homosexuality as one of the grosser sins, alongside murder and stealing. Hopefully, the Civil Liberties Association catches up to them.

Its pretty amazing how so many denominations exist. No other religion manipulates their beliefs into how they want it to fit.

  9. Yes they do. Look at all the sects in every other religion. It's because there's no way to determine who is right and who is wrong in a theological disagreement.

  10. Yes... That is because of the subjectivity in faith based belief.
